Sarge.
Sarge was called "Sarge" by everyone except Mom and the three brothers. An eighteen
year old who fought in World War II, Sarge landed on most of the nasty islands in the
Pacific where his character was permanently molded in the model of the perfect Marine. Fighting
with the 11th 155mm Gun Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, Sarge hit the beach
on Guam, Eniwetok, The Marshall Islands, Leyte, and many other islands. After WWII,
a number of years in the Corps, and two more in Korea, Sarge joined the local county
Sheriff's Department where he rose to the rank of - you guessed it - Sergeant. He
was very close to his three sons and the highlight of every week was target shooting
at a local gravel pit where Sarge taught the boys to shoot straight, keep their guns
clean, and only put their collective finger on the trigger when they intended to
destroy something.
